About Us
Warm Valley Farm is home to a market garden, cut flowers, sheep, heritage-breed pigs, chickens and ducks on Orcas Island.
Practices
We use locally adapted organic seed whenever possible, and use organic and regenerative farming practices, although we are not certified.
We use rotational grazing for our livestock, as well as a crop rotation plan seasonally and cover crops in the winter. We mulch with cut grass from between our rows for weed suppression. If we use any soil amendments or products for pests, they are OMRI approved.
We have a compost facility and are about to start an inoculated bio-char program on the farm to boost compost and soil health.
We overwinter our livestock in sacrifice zones to protect our fields when it's too wet for grazing. We have planted many new fruit and nut trees. We have created pollinator gardens, as well as pollinator patches in the rows of our Market Garden field.
We are adding solar to the farm this August. We reduce our carbon footprint whenever possible, including delivering in a hybrid car. We are striving to become a carbon-neutral farm.
This is will be our third season as Land Hosts for OCPA (Orcas Community Participatory Agriculture) creating community connection, education and gardens and food sovereignty. We have been slowly revitalizing and restoring the farm and any degraded areas.
