About Us
Still Light Farm is located on Lopez Island. Our mission is to offer resilient food and seeds to our local community, using ecological practices that prioritize biodiversity. We grow specialty dry beans and grains, which are available seasonally as the harvest comes in. Our small scale plant nursery grows regionally adapted vegetable and herb starts, selected for flavor and resilience.
Practices
Our pulses and grains are carefully selected for flavor, resilience, and adaptability to our maritime climate. Crops are available as the harvest comes in, which makes for fresh and deeply flavorful pulses and grains. While we are not organic certified, we grow our crops using organic and ecologically sustainable practices.
In our nursery, we grow vegetable and herb starts for local gardeners. Our seed is sourced from small regional seed producers who prioritize locally adapted, genetically diverse varieties. Open-pollinated plants are chosen whenever possible so that gardeners can save their own seed. We conduct on-farm trials throughout each growing season to select for the most reliable and delicious varieties. Resilient starts are grown in our greenhouses in biologically diverse soil. Seedlings start off in soil blocks so they can develop a vigorous root system, then are potted up.
