About Us
Shade Maiden Mushrooms was started with two goals in mind. Grow what you love to eat and grow in partnership with your island ecosystem. We were looking for a forest grown crop that would thrive in cooler temps and shade. Mushrooms, like wine grapes, capture the flavors of their environment, our forest grown mushrooms very much, do just that.

We grow a variety of oyster mushrooms (Grey Dove, White Elm, Golden, Pink, PoHu, White Elm, Summer White), King Trumpet, Black Pearl and Blue Kings, Shiitake, Lion's Mane, and Nameko, or Chestnut.
Practices
We are primarily a seasonal, off grid, outdoor grower. The majority of our mushrooms are fresh air forest grown in “Mini Mushroom Houses” that we place in the shady areas of our forest amongst the trees and understory. We do as much as possible completely off grid by seeking out little micro-climates within micro climates to maintain the growing temperatures and humidity needs of our mushrooms. From growing containers to packaging we employ environmentally friendly practices, and use the most sustainable materials available. Our spent mushroom substrate has a second life as garden compost.
